CBS Secondary Sporting Success

As the 2018/19 academic year draws to it’s conclusion with the start of the State Exams its time to reflect on the incredible year of sport in Midleton CBS Secondary School. It is a year that will certainly be listed in the history books as a standout year and will no doubt be spoken of for sometime to come.

Winning the Harty Cup is no easy task, 2019 being only the 4th time it graced the halls of CBS and on its own that would make 2019 an impressive year for the school; but the students weren’t content with that alone, they added another 20 trophies to cabinet including 9 more Munster titles and 4 All-Irelands for good measure.

What makes this more impressive is that all year groups in the school were represented in the six different sports – Hurling, Football, Athletics, Soccer, Rugby and Orienteering.

Only some of the Trophies!
Back Row – Dan McDonnell (All-Ireland PJC Orienteering) Justin Oke (U16 Cork Colleges Hurling) Arthur Nganou (Munster Senior Soccer), Dylan Hogan (Harty Cup), Cathal Hickey (Lord Mayors Cup A) Cillian Carroll (Lord Mayors Cup C) Frank O’Brien (Munster Senior XCountry)

Not only were the teams winning but participation in extra-curricular activities was at an all time high. Over 80 first years were hurling weekly, the school entered its first competitive basketball competition and badminton was introduced with almost 30 students playing, all this in addition to the golf, football, orienteering, athletics, rugby and soccer teams. In all over 700 students participated in some extra-curricular activity.

For the past number of years the Past Pupils Union have been delighted to sponsor all of the school team jerseys. We are always very proud to see the students wear the CBS’ Red and White. We look forward to continuing this tradition into the future.

Our sincere thanks to the players, mentors and coaches for all their hard work and dedication to all the school’s teams. This commitment was well rewarded this year.

Congratulations on an outstanding year and we wish the school another successful year next year.
