This Tuesday the secondary school senior students are in another Munster Semi-final, this time in the Soccer Munster Senior Cup. This the teams first appearance in the Cup semi-final in a number of years.

Their road to the semi-final has not been an easy one beating Davis College Mallow, St. Aidan’s Community College and the highly rated St. Francis College, Rochestown. After a sluggish start against Davis College away from home (going in at half time 1-0 down), they eventually prevailed winning 4-1; with goals from Charlie Whalley, Loic Ngeufang, Joe Stack and Dylan O’Keefe. In the second round, the team emerged victorious against a spirited St. Aidan’s Community College in a hard fought 2-0 win, qualifying for the last 16. Charlie Whalley and Matty O’Reilly scoring the goals, late in the second half.
The tie of the tournament so far came against the talented St. Francis’ College, Rochestown; whose current team have already collected two Munster and All-Ireland titles over the last couple of years. In this game, Midleton CBS raced into a 3-1 lead with Charlie Whalley scoring a brace and Neil Cunningham adding one of his own. However, the team were pegged back to 3-3 after a deflected long range shot found the back of the net and an unfortunate own goal. After extra time failed to separate the two side, the dreaded penalty shoot out awaited. With two magnificent saves by Artur Nganou, Midleton CBS U19’s triumphed 4-1 on penalties.
Last January they again faced difficult opposition in Colaiste Dun Iascaigh, Cahir. They eventually won that game 2-0 with goals from Charlie Whalley and Loic Ngeufang, progressing to the Semi-final this week.

The semi-final is down for decision this Tuesday when they take on Carrick CBS in Carrick United’s ground in Carrick-on-Suir with a 12 noon kick-off. A victory would see them play the final this Friday against Presentation College, Cork.
All of us in the PPU wish them all the best in the semi-final and hope to see them and the school in another Munster Final.
